Responsible for the receipt, scanning, indexing of medical record documents into the hospital's electronic medical record (EMR) in a timely and accurate manner. Must demonstrate competency in the following areas: prepares medical records for scanning, prepares batch cover sheets, does quality review, uploads and accepts batches for completeness. Responsible for tracking, retrieving and performing follow up activities on health records. Sorts loose health record documents received daily, scan and indexes materials on a timely basis within established guidelines; and makes the proper disposition of documents for unavailable records. This position also ensures that incomplete records, medical record forms and record storage and retention functions are completed according to established guidelines in a timely and efficient manner ensuring accuracy and within compliance. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities. Complies with all organizational and departmental policies.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. One (1) year medical record keeping systems and procedures in an acute care setting or a physician office. Strong knowledge of medical records practices, policies and procedures including HIPAA. Must have an understanding of clinical workflows and knowledge of medical records and must be well trained in medical terminology. Basic knowledge of computers. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and clinical staff. Ability to exercise initiative, judgment and decision making. Must be comfortable using a computer to perform tasks such as scanning, indexing, and editing medical records.
Successful candidates will be subject to criminal background and drug screens.
